Baturday: First Week of October 2019

Baturday

Welcome back to everyone’s favorite Batman-themed column here on Comic Booked, Baturday! I’m taking a quick break from New York Comic Con (full event coverage coming soon!) to jump in with my thoughts on all things Batman. The first week of October was full of great stuff. Here’s my take on this week’s releases:

  • Batman #80 – 4/5
  • Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #6 (of 6) – 4.5/5
  • DCeased #5 (of 6) – 4/5
  • Deathstroke #48 – 4/5
  • Harley Quinn #66 – 3.5/5
  • Justice League #33 – 5/5
  • Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium #2 (of 2) – 5/5
  • Lois Lane #4 (of 12) – 5/5
  • Young Justice #9 – 5/5
  • DC Universe: DC Daily – 3/5
  • DC Universe: Titans – 5/5
  • New York Comic Con 2019 – 5/5
  • Joker (film) in Theaters – 3/5

My pick of the week: LOIS LANE!!!

So there you have it. Lots of great stuff going on in Batman-related books and other media. Tons of great news, previews, and upcoming releases as well. But you all know that. Lois Lane is my pick of the week because it is awesome, Greg Rucka is amazing, and the Question(s) are integral to the issue’s plot. NYCC is a blast, as it always is (look back early next week for my event coverage recap). Justice League heats up the Justice Doom War. And Titans is still great on DC Universe, Young Justice and Legion of Super-Heroes continue to amaze with Bendis ushering in the new age of DC heroes on the shelves, and Joker was… Well… Here’s my spoiler-free hot take on the Joker film: Fans of early Robert DeNiro will find some nostalgic callbacks, we get a famous “alley” scene that we’ve seen (and will always be affected by), and Joaquin Phoenix continues to be a controversial, polarizing, unnerving character actor in what will likely be considered the most offensive film of the year by non-comic fans and the most forgettable one by nerds across the globe. But what are your thoughts? What are you most looking forward to in the upcoming weeks and months? Let us know on social media and we’ll continue the conversation there. See you back here next week for another installment of Baturday!
