“We’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.

“We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise.

These are the words of Kevin Feige himself from an interview with Deadline.com .

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johannsen has played the character of Black Widow through multiple Marvel Studios movies.  The first time we saw Natasha Romanoff , also known as Black Widow, on screen was in the 2010 film Iron Man 2.  She executed the role so well that she went on to play the character again in 2012’s The Avengers, 2014’s Captain America: The Winder Soldier, 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and this week’s release Captain America: Civil War.  As a starring and important member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers team, she is one of the characters that have noticeably not had her chance to star in a solo film.  Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and the Hulk have all had their own solo movies, lead in to and between the ensemble Avengers movies.

Natasha/Scarlett’s movie will most likely be a Spy/Espionage thriller tell of her days with the Soviet Union.

Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios have officially announced the next nine Marvel movies; hopefully this Black Widow solo film will be be announced as part of the all-important Phase 4 plans.

If you are a ScarJo fan or a fan of Black Widow this is both extremely exciting and encouraging news! All I have to say is “Black Widow, baby!”
