save-the-date-250x250

We’re continuing our week long coverage on Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) which is now four days away! Along with presenting part of the interviews we are also linking to previews to the books talked about here!

A special thanks to the fine folks behind the FCBD website for allowing us to share these interviews! Remember, FCBD is this Saturday! Check out your local comic book store to see what will be available and what sales they may be running!

So, without further delay: Humberto Ramos!

For Free Comic Book Day 2011, Gold Sponsor Marvel will offer The Amazing Spiderman, giving comic readers a chance to see if Spider-Man can learn martial arts from Shang-Chi, the Master of Martial Arts!

Now Humberto Ramos, artist on The Amazing Spiderman and Impulse, talks about the FCBD title, its characters, the significance of FCBD itself, and much more in Freecomicbookday.com’s exclusive interview.

Freecomicbookday.com: Set your project up for those that might not know much about it. What can we expect to see in terms of story and art?

Humberto Ramos: A roller coaster ride of action with Spider-Man vs. Spider-Woman. And if you want to know why Spider-Man and Spider-Woman are facing off…well, you’ll just have to get the book. What I can tell you is that events in this book will have major ramifications in the Spider-Man universe.

Freecomicbookday.com: What’s your favorite part about being able to work in comics?

Humberto Ramos: Waking up every day and living the “endless summer.” Having the chance to draw the funny books and get paid for it is awesome!

Freecomicbookday.com: Why do you think FCBD is so vital to the industry?

Humberto Ramos: It is our duty as members of this industry to pay back our supporters—the legions of readers who buy our books time and time again. And also FCBD is the best way we have to get closer to new readers. That’s why it’s important that, when we offer a free book, to offer one of the highest quality. To me, it’s an honor to be asked to work on this project alongside Dan Slott.

Freecomicbookday.com: Since FCBD has now been a yearly event since 2002, do you, your creator friends and/or your family have any annual FCBD traditions?

Humberto Ramos: Here in Mexico there’s a FCBD as well but, unfortunately, the word hasn’t spread beyond the stores. But I do certainly go and pick up my free book.

Freecomicbookday.com: What do you believe will set your FCBD book apart from the others that readers will be picking up for free on May 7?

Humberto Ramos: If you guys don’t pick up the FCBD Amazing Spider-Man, it will be like not getting the ticket to the most awesome party of the summer. That’s how big this book is.

I remember Humberto Ramos as the crappy artist who did DV8 for Image. I thought he sucked and I didn't care for Jeff Matsuda, either. If i wasn't so interested in what was happening with Sabretooth "joining" the team, I woulda dropped X-Factor a lot sooner.
