News from NYCC: Kevin Smith to write Batman

New York City Comic Con is a huge deal and there are always massive announcements that can sometimes shake the foundation of fandom to it’s heart. There are creators, artists, and writers out there that get people drooling, and one of those names is Kevin Smith. The writer/director of such movies as Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Mallrats, is making another foray into the comics world.

BatmanIn the past, Kevin Smith was involved in reinvigorating Green Arrow for DC and has done some work on Batman. He just announced today at the Comic Book Men panel that he was working on a miniseries for Batman with Walt Flanagan. According to a blurb posted on Bleeding Cool, this team has completed three books already and they are working to complete the story. The only bad news for fans is that this will be outside of the New 52 continuity and that Batman is going to go a little further than we have ever seen him go in his crime fighting. What this means we don’t know, but we will be on the lookout for this new series.
