The 2015 Steampunk World’s Fair , was held in New Jersey this year in May – it was so amazing dates are already set for next years hootenanny to commence 13 May thru 15 May, 2016! Suggest you might plan now to attend; hosting hotels are Radisson Hotel in Piscataway – Somerset and Embassy Suites Piscataway – filling up already!!!
More info for next year can be found here.
Touted as the largest Steampunk festival in the world, this event welcomed everyone to this indoor and outdoor event – all ages welcome (unless particular event shenanigans are scheduled for 21+), it’s amazing! All genres of Steampunk converge on this weekend to show their gears and gadgets, their steampunked mainstream super heroes, all airship pilots and crew togs and goth steampunks – everyone comes to admire, share, network, immerse themselves into the costuming venue through music, entertainment and every delight imaginable!
Entertainment included great groups and activities; The Clockwork Dolls, Eli August and the Abandoned Buildings, talks from Gail Carriger and Professor Mark P. Donnelly, Facial Hair competitions, The Nightshade Society: Dark Victoriana, The Poe Museum, Poetry slams, costume contests, Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band and Steam Powered Giraffe! This doesn’t even account for the great visitors, attendees and sightseers that provided their own entertainment for all in their costumes, cosplays, love of the event and joy that came from their attending! Viewing this camaraderie makes one love cosplay and costuming even more!
Next year costume contest tip: Two separate costume contests are held with contestants funneled into 5 different groups: Adventurer, Science, Military, Cosplay (including a favorite of superhero!) and Group (any group of 3 or more like themed costumes). Any costume pairs will need to enter the other groups for the contest . Winners in each group are assigned 1st, 2nd or 3rd places and the 1st place winners in each group compete against each other for the title of 1st Place “Best in Con” Winner! Great competition and fantastic opportunities for many to be recognized for their costuming and hard work!
