Today the world learned that hit-machine publisher AfterShock Comics would be teaming with super star writer Donny Cates for a new comic book title called ‘Baby Teeth‘ Per AfterShock’s Twitter feed, the book is “Buffy mixed with Rosemary’s Baby – Shaken, not stirred.”
Donny Cates’ star has risen drastically recently with the critically-acclaimed God Country. Though having written other hit titles like Buzzkill, it was God Country that really put him on peoples’ radar. It seems to be perfect timing then for Cates to join the ranks of incredibly talented folks in the AfterShock Comics stable. One of the draws for folks like Joe Pruett, Garth Ennis, Szymon Kudranski, Phil Hester, Tony Harris, Marguerite Bennett and Paul Jenkins is the creator-driven focus that the publisher has maintained since first launching in 2015. Baby Teeth will truly be Cates’ story to tell and, as seen in the official synopsis below, is comfortably and squarely right in Cates’ wheelhouse of fantasy/SciFi. More specifically, Cates writes about protagonists with major issues: Heroes that can’t pay their loans back, Alzheimer-stricken Gods, Barbecue restaurateurs that happen to be Vampires and now a teen mom whose baby happens to be the AntiChrist.
Here’s my take: It won’t matter whether you chose to consider Donny Cates and his body or exceptional work or you choose to consider AfterShock Comics and their growing line of popular, quality hit titles in your decision to try out this title. You’ll arrive at the same conclusion:
