Batman: The Killing Joke is arguably the most controversial (or possibly just the first in a series of years’ worth of controversial) Batman tales ever told. It should come as no surprise that even now, more than two decades later, it not only defines Batman, Batgirl, Commissioner Gordon, and the Joker, but shocks audiences. How fitting that the release of the animated adaptation be rated R? Here’s the trailer. See for yourself.

There you have it. What do you think? Are you pumped? Scared? Do you think they’re saving the “R-rated” stuff for the feature length film? And what do you think they’ll add to make it a full movie? I can’t wait to see where they go with it. Rumor has it they’re adding a little bit more of a Batgirl/Barbara Gordon sequence to the opening of the film. And how about that ending? Is it an Elseworlds? Is it a finale? Or is it just a gateway to more years of DC Animated Universe storytelling? Only time will tell. Needless to say, count me in. Especially with the voice cast of the original Batman: The Animated Series reprising their roles yet again.
Thanks to Jo Blo Movie Trailers for the high quality trailer.
