In keeping up with current trends and demands in the comic book market and superhero animated space, DC Comics, IDW and Nickelodeon have announced a three way partnership to bring a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Batman crossover animated series to life this coming November.
Riding high on the success of other nostalgically driven projects such as Ghostbusters, TMNT/Batman, the upcoming Big Trouble in Little China/ Escape from New York crossover, the Hannah-Barbera launches from DC Comics, DC’s Batman ’66 and a plethora of others from the very recent past, this comes at a time when customers and viewers are looking to the past to celebrate the present and the future.
Beware the Batman’s Matthew K. Manning will team with an artist already familiar with the Ninja Turtles, Jon Sommariva for this project. This will be a show rated for all ages and aimed at entertaining all age groups and demographics.
IDW’s Chief Creative Officer, Chris Ryall had this to say in a recent interview; “It’s always a blast to pair up beloved characters in comic series, and our recent pairings with DC have been especially satisfying on a creative level and in regards to fan satisfaction, too,” He goes on to state “Being able to bring Ciro Nieli’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the amazing animated Gotham envisioned by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski is a major bonus.”
DC Comics Senior Vice President of Editorial Strategy and Administration Hank Kanalz said “The previous Star Trek/Green Lantern andBatman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlescrossovers were a huge hit with fans of each of the characters,” and later “Bringing these characters back again, and expanding Batman and the Turtles to the realm where they’re most recognized by comic fans and fans of the TV series will make for a great story that any fan can’t wait to read.”
