Happy Baturday! It’s been a great week for Batman fans and for Comic Booked’s longest-running column. Here are my thoughts on this week’s Batman-related releases:
- Batman #71 – 5/5
- Justice League #24 – 4.5/5
- Nightwing #60 – 3.5/5
- Teen Titans #30 – 4/5
- Arrow on CW – 3.5/5
- DC Daily on DC Universe – 3/5
- DC’s Legends of Tomorrow on CW – 3.5/5
- Doom Patrol on DC Universe – 3.5/5
My Pick of the Week: BATMAN!!!
So there you have it. King, Janin, and Fornes deliver yet another great chapter with the Bane vs Batman saga. Season finale week on the CW gave us some cliffhangers, some endings, and a few shots (and a trailer!) for Batwoman. And Robert Pattinson was cast as the new Batman. In the initial press release and report, I kept my comments on the casting to myself, which was very difficult. But this is my column and people want to know what I think about BATtinson, so here it it is: He’s polarizing. He’s simultaneously loved and hated, overrated and underrated. I loved Michael Keaton, but then I also loved Christian Bale, and then even more so Ben Affleck. All three were great for their own reasons: Keaton was the best Batman, Affleck was the best Bruce Wayne, and Bale was the best combination of the two. But this new guy might just pull it off. He’s got the look, he’s got the acting chops, and, most importantly, he’s got the divisive charm working for him. Controversial casting makes people interested and usually ends up working out pretty well, especially with comic book movies. Just ask Heath Ledger, or Robert Downey Jr., or Danny DeVito. And although I’m still very curious (and not super happy) about Joaquin Phoenix playing the Joker in the film coming out later this year, I’m going to give it a chance. So if I’m going to go see a movie starring my least favorite actor of all time playing one of my favorite villains of all time, I’m sure as hell going to see Pattinson put on the cape and cowl. But what do you all think? I’d love to hear from you on social media. Hit me up at jeffhillwriter on Twitter and let’s keep the conversation going until next weekend, where we get into more Batman talk. See you next Baturday!
