Baturday: A special message from a lifetime fan

Baturday

Welcome back to Baturday, folks!  It was a pretty uneventful week in Batman history this go-around, but there were still plenty of releases and newsworthy items to showcase.  But if you sit still and read through my ratings of this week’s comics (and the TV show), you’ll notice a little something different at the tail end of the article.  A rant, of sorts.  A “message from a lifetime fan,” as the subtitle of this week’s column would have you believe.  But that’s later.  For now, here are my thoughts on this week’s Dark Knight goodness:

Gotham 1.14: “The Fearsome Dr. Crane” – My Rating: 5/5

Batman Eternal #44 – My Rating: 4/5

Green Arrow #39 – My Rating: 3/5

Earth 2 #31 – My Rating: 3/5

Earth 2: World’s End #18 – My Rating: 3/5

The New 52: Futures End #40 – My Rating: 4/5

Aquaman and the Others #10 – My Rating: 4/5

Superman #38 – My Rating: 3/5

Grayson #7 – My Rating: 4/5

Harley Quinn Month variant covers – My Rating: 3/5

Detective Comics #39 – My Rating: 4/5

My Pick of the week: GOTHAM!

So there you have it, Bat fans!  What were your favorite releases from our pals at DC Comics?  Leave a comment below and let us know.  We want to hear.  But since you’re usually pretty quiet, I’m going to “Stir the Pot” again, if nothing else, for old time’s sake.  So here it goes…

DC Comics is walking a dangerous line these days, what with almost every other new title they are putting out or previewing being a Batman book, featuring a Batman character, or guest-starring…  You guessed it…  Batman.  Now, as a Bat fanatic, this is totally okay with me in terms of purely selfish reasoning.  But in terms of a company?  It’s not sending the best message.  The DC bigwigs are essentially saying: “Yeah.  We’re dark and brooding and entirely dependent on our one property that is timeless and easy to sell: Batman.  We also have other characters, but whatever.”  But maybe I’m just crazy.  What do you guys think?  Is Convergence going to fix everything?  Give Superman his balls back?  Make the Flash less boring?  Explore things outside the realm of “we need Batman’s help!” world?  I sure hope so.
