It has been the subject of rumor and conjecture for quite some time now but – as made official by the Star Wars Twitter Account – Donald Glover is Lando Calrissian.
He will portray the younger Lando Calrissian in an upcoming Star Wars stand alone film in 2018.
The movie’s director, Christopher Miller, said on the Star Wars website StarWars.Com “We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” He goes on to say ““These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
Donald Glover is known for his roles in The Martian, Magic Mike XXL, the television show Atlanta, Community, 30 Rock and more. He is credited with acting, writing and producing roles for the show Atlanta.
Not much is known about the Star Wars film scheduled, according to IMDB, for May 25th 2018 but is one of a series of anthological films set in the Star Wars universe. It is currently in pre-production. Rumor says that the movie will focus on the Han Solo’s smuggling days, how he became a smuggler and perhaps how he met his sidekick Chewbacca. Now, we know it will also tell us how he met Lando Calrissian.
Alden Ehrenreich will play an young Han Solo in the film. The Directors, two of them in fact, are known for their work with the hit movie “The Lego Movie”. This will be the first time that 2 directors have worked on a Star Wars film since “Return of the Jedi.
