Comic Deep Dive: One Year Later

Comic Deep Dive

A year ago today, I began a weekly (then monthly) column that garnered quite a bit of success: Comic Deep Dive.  I took advantage of the cutting of the supply chain, the moving of distributors, the global pandemic, and a bunch of extra free time to taken on a project that I always wanted to try: going back and reading or rereading stuff that wasn’t my major DC superhero comics.  We had some great deep dives, but with the anniversary coming up in a couple of days, I’ve decided to bring it back.  I took some time off to read and reread some fun characters that I’ve always liked but never had the time or energy to dive into (like the Spectre, Dr. Fate, the Demon, Hawkman, the Flash, Robin, Impulse, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four, just to name a few).  Before I do so, here’s a quick trip down memory lane.  Comic Deep Dive year one featured:

  • An Introduction
  • Malibu’s Ultraverse
  • Marvel UK
  • DC’s Impact/Red Circle
  • DC’s Milestone
  • Marvel’s New Universe
  • Alan Moore’s America’s Best Comics
  • CrossGen’s Sigilverse
  • Marvel 2099
  • A Recap/Update
  • Image’s Extreme/Maximum/Awesome
  • Marvel’s MC2
  • Marvel’s Mangaverse
  • Will Eisner’s The Spirit
  • One Year Later

And this year, I’ve got some big reads and rereads planned.  Here is a quick preview of what’s to come:

  • Image’s Top Cow
  • Ultimate Marvel
  • Just Imagine Stan Lee Creating the DC Universe
  • Valiant
  • Cliffhanger!
  • Aspen
  • Wildstorm
  • and a 5-part 10 year retrospective of DC’s The New 52

So there you have it.  Some great things from the past, some amazing things coming soon.  Please let me know if there are any deep dives you think I should take.  I’m always looking to expand my reading, my collecting, and my writing.  See you all soon for the next installment of what is slowly becoming my favorite Comic Booked project yet.
