One of the things I always enjoy on my weekends is the bevy of comics-related cartoons to be found therein! So, after watching Ben 10: Omniverse and Star Wars: The Clone Wars on my TiVo last weekend, I settled in to watch the ‘DC Nation’ block including Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice: Invasion.
Instead, what I got were reruns of Dragons: Riders of Berk.
To say the least, I was very unhappy. Not that Dragons is a bad cartoon. It just wasn’t what I wanted to watch.
Then I checked the websites that are often most accurate about what shows will air when. No sign of GL or YJ next week. either. I looked in other places on the Internet and discovered that Cartoon Network had abruptly pulled ‘DC Nation’ with no sign of when (or even if) it would return.
I was heartened to see that other fans were giving Cartoon Network a Tweet-ful of their displeasure. Thank goodness for the Web!
It didn’t take long before CN tweeted a brief note indicating that ‘DC Nation’ would return in January with new episodes. Will GL and YJ be back? No indication. They could leap into Beware the Batman and another show given the sparse info we received.
Let me clearly state that I LOVE GL and YJ. Since Warner Bros. owns both Cartoon Network and DC Comics, it makes sense to cross-breed like this. Hey, Disney and Marvel have their “Marvel Universe” block on Sundays, much as I find Ultimate Spider-Man way too silly for my tastes. I still watch it, though. I’ll be sorry when Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes comes to a close before very long, though.
What angers me most is that CN did this without enough notice for even my TiVo to know! And last I checked, it still has GL on for this Saturday morning! Fat chance that’ll happen!
If the ratings were really poor for ‘DC Nation,’ Cartoon Network should say so. After all, we got to enjoy a whole two new episodes before they yanked them completely off their schedule. I’ve been busily promoting these shows every chance I’ve had, so I feel really betrayed by CN, 20th birthday or not!
For the life of me, I can’t think of any other reason to pull a cartoon on Saturday morning. I do hear one thing being floated about – that the channel wanted to focus more on its anniversary celebration. WHAT? How is Dragons better filling that need?
I see some people stating they simply won’t watch Cartoon Network until ‘DC Nation’ is back on the air. I understand the reasoning behind it, but I like a lot of shows on CN these days. I watch Thundercats, Sym-Bionic Titan, Looney Tunes, the aforementioned Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ben 10: Omniverse and even Dragons.
I’m too big of an animation fan to boycott Cartoon Network until ‘DC Nation’ comes back. But I want the network to clearly know that at least this fan feels that I’ve been treated very, very poorly by it. While I’ll continue to watch the shows I’m currently viewing, I won’t be nearly as likely to give new programming on CN the chance I have in the past. Oh, and I won’t be buying products from anyone who advertises there, either!
What also frustrates me no end is that GL and YJ’s new episodes apparently continue to run in Canada. You can even buy the YJ episode that didn’t air through iTunes. No such luck for GL, though. And they wonder why people torrent! Sheesh!
I’m mad as can be, and if for any reason ‘DC Nation’ leaves the airwaves, I just might be passing Cartoon Network by in favor of Nickelodeon or Disney XD. CN, be warned! I still watch Invader Zim and Phineas and Ferb sometimes, you know!
I want my ‘DC Nation!’ My weekend just isn’t complete without it!
So it looks like that GL and YJ are both headed to Boomerang?
