Holy Cow could DC have spread this out into any more books? This is a prime example of why I stopped following "big" storylines. I dont think I have a single customer that reads all of those books. Most read 1-3 of those titles and have very little interest in others.
Really? I think it's just the right amount. It left out several key Batman family books and probably could have spread even further throughout the DCU without any negative backlash. The sales are speaking for themselves, getting books like Suicide Squad to sell out and go into second printing is a win in my book. I think they could have actually afforded to make this bigger, including Batwoman, Batwing, Batman: The Dark Knight, Worlds' Finest, Talon, Birds of Prey, Batman Incorporated, and maybe even a few other obscure character or team books with lower sales, like DC Universe Presents. Just my opinion, though. But who am I kidding? I've been in love with the concept of an almost yearly Batman event ever since Knightfall. It's sort of become tradition… And it certainly doesn't hurt that this one is actually great.
Links to my individual crossover tie-in reviews coming soon…!
Jeff I do believe you would be the exception to the rule. Not doubting your liking of the story. Just from what I see the price point of comics and storylines that spread out like his is probably the number one reason to drop books that customers cite to me.
I think storylines can be big and fun but do not need to involve every little title that normally does not sell well. Worlds Finest, Talon, Birds of Prey, Batwing, and Batwoman are prime examples of bad sellers for me. People do not typically want to spend money on books they do not read just to follow a story as much any more. At $3 – $4 a book I do not blame them.
You can probably skip half of these and not really be missing anything, they're all related but I don't think they're all essential to the story.
So far, I'd say that Batman (obviously) and Batgirl are essential, but I'm hoping that they all play their own part… Catwoman is the only one so far that was unnecessary. We'll just have to wait and see!
Completely understandable. I also forgot to point out that I'm already buying all Batman family books anyway. Not to mention the fact that I'm covering the event, which makes for a pretty biased fan. 🙂
so is it over in february then? or they gonna pull a marvel and have 253 epilogues that lead into the next crossover? LOL
No it is not. Though I appreciate your humor (or, more accurately, fear that direction), there are such things as good epilogues, which DC has admitted that they are doing. The list will be updated with epilogues that will run through February in almost all of the crossover titles affected by the storyline. Great question!
Maybe not essential, but definitely awesome!
It is just too much money. It doesn't match up with all the other ways we can get our entertainment or whatever you want to call it. 4 bucks? No way. Digital will eventually make too much sense and kill print. I know that's an ongoing discussion, and I get why folks are passionate about print…I love it to. 10 years from now though, printing on paper…not going to happen.
I sincerely hope you are wrong. But we'll just have to wait and see, then… Let's all just plan on a tentative 10 year celebration. 🙂
