Launching on the heels and on the success of a bevy of beautiful Star Wars books is Doctor Aphra, from Marvel Comics. Droids, Princess Leia, Lando, Star Wars, Poe Dameron, Lando and Darth Vader have all come before, and the Star Wars line continues to grow. They have all been excellent books and highly successful and I expect this new offering from Marvel to follow suit.
One of the things that makes this title special is that Doctor Aphra is the first character who originated in these comic books to get her own title. Doctor Aphra first appeared in Darth Vader # 3 alongside 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) and BT-1, two droid sidekicks. Also joining her, and seen prominently on some of the covers below is the Wookie bounty hunter Black Krrsantan, who first appeared in Darth Vader #1.
Fresh off his hot run on the 25-issue Darth Vader title, Kieron Gillen will again pen the dark side of the galaxy. Kev Walker will be handling the interior art.
But what about those variants and exclusives? Since the release date is now less than one month away, I want to take a look at some of these covers and exclusives, some of these are your first look.

Following the blockbuster finale of Darth Vader #25, the fan-favorite character begins a new journey in STAR WARS: DOCTOR APHRA #1 – the new ongoing series coming this December! From superstar writer Kieron Gillen (Darth Vader) and fan-favorite artist Kev Walker (Marvel Zombies) comes Marvel’s first ongoing series starring an original character created in the comics!
Following her time in the clutches of Darth Vader, Doctor Aphra has barely escaped with her life. If he ever learns of her survival, he’ll hunt her to the ends of the galaxy. But for now, it’s time for a return to what she does best. With the droids 0-0-0 and BT-1 in tow, she’s off in search of rare artifacts from the galactic center to the Outer Rim and everywhere in between. Aphra’s got debts to pay after all. Just as long as she can stay one step ahead of the Empire, some Bounty Hunters and just about everyone else in the galaxy!
That Ashley Witter cover is by far the best. Beautiful.
