ABC debuts a new comedy titled Manhattan Love Story following the debut of another show titled Selfie. On the surface, it seems par for the course.
Romantic Comedy. Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. Boy meets Girl. Chick Flick.
There, that about covers every buzzword that will run through your head. Which is handy that we can see your thoughts on the screen.
You see, that’s the hook for Manhattan Love Story. At the heart of it all, it is a romantic comedy about a girl that has just moved to New York and the guy her sorority sister is trying to set her up with. The girl, Analeigh Tipton as Dana, is fresh from the south and exploring her new surroundings. The guy, Jake McDorman as Peter, is your typical lovable oaf. Their chemistry is outstanding. Their acting ability may carry the show on through.
Oh yeah, the hook. Viewers get to hear the internal thoughts of the two main characters.
From their work environment to their home life to what they really think of each other, it will all be spelled out for the viewers. Some of the best lines come from that internal monologue. It puts a whole new spin on the same old show. It might be just enough to make it work.
Manhattan Love Story airs on CBS Monday nights at 10 pm eastern time.
