Shark Tank returns to ABC tonight with a special two-hour premier. The reality-based show centered around investors and company ideas will begin a sixth season on the network.
The premise is as simple as a business proposal should be. If you have a product or business idea that you believe in, you can submit it via the web to be reviewed by potential investors. If the idea is interesting enough, you may just find yourself on an episode of Shark Tank.
Shark Tank offers a bit of a change from the typical reality show. While the people that appear on the show can earn a substantial investment prize, they are not truly in a competition. It’s sink or swim on their idea but it is not focused on pitting the ideas against each other. It is a public service disguised as a reality show. It is also very wealthy people finding a way to make money off of distributing their money. A unique concept, indeed.
The show puts a panel of wealthy investors together for people to pitch their ideas to. The panel consists of the following:
- Billionaire Mark Cuban – owner and chairman of AXS TV and owner of the NBA Dallas Mavericks
- Barbara Corcoran – Real Estate Mogul
- Lori Greiner – Queen of QVC
- Robert Herjavec – Technology Innovator
- Daymond John – Fashion and Branding Expert
- Kevin O’Leary – Venture Capitalist
The ideas are scrutinized, put into action and evaluated for potential investment. All in an effort to help everyday citizens realize their entrepreneurial dreams.
The show was awarded the Outstanding Structured Reality Program Emmy Award in 2014. It was nominated for the Outstanding Reality Program award in 2013 and 2012.
Shark Tank airs on Friday night at 8 pm eastern time.
