“It’s unlike any story that I have ever written” writer and DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns starts out by saying in the new “trailer” for Doomsday Clock, a new series out beginning this November.
Johns’ last written book was the Rebirth one-shot, a book that became a smash, success and kicked off the “Rebirth” campaign that Doomday Clock is also a part of. In many ways, this is the next major installment in the overall Rebirth story for DC Comics.
“We’re not interested in having some funny mash-up (Superman vs Dr. Manhattan) What we’re trying to do is take the philosophy and the tones and the thematics of Watchmen. Some of the subjects they dealt with in Watchmen have a very specific and thematic viewpoint. And the DC Universe has several but ultimately one. And we talked a lot about what that would look like in 2016″. So then, as he outlines in the trailer, he reached out to artist Gary Frank to begin constructing the story and the dynamics and tones. Johns’ calls the book, affectionately, dark and mysterious yet quirky, with characters that are “a little off”.
His main description he wants people to know when they’re reading the book and afterwards reflecting upon it is “Thought-provoking.”
Well, I am intrigued!
Also of note is that this book will be released in a “Midnight release party” event such as the recent one done at local comic book shops for Snyder’s Metal event. However this will be released, appropriately, at 11:57 p.m. See the presser below for additional details.
