In February of 2017, IDW Publishing – in partnership with Creative Licensing – will release a comic book mini-series that explores the Highlander universe and expand the legacy that began with the 1986 Peter S. David film “Highlander” starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown and Jon Polito. That film spawned multiple follow up movies, a television series and – recently – a reboot to the franchise which is to be helmed by a co-director of John Wick: Chad Stahelski.
Two comic book series have preceded this one, “Highlander” and “Highlander: The Way of the Sword”, both by Dynamite Entertainment.
Now, in 2017, writer Brian Ruckley and artist Andrea Mutti will take the baton and push the franchise – and Connor Macleod – ever farther.
Be sure to check out this prequel series from IDW this coming February!
There Can Be Only One Highlander Comic Prequel
The Origins of Highlander Will Be Explored in New Comic Series From IDW in 2017
San Diego, CA (November 15, 2016) – Highlander, the epic action/adventure fantasy film starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, will expand its legacy next year as a comic-book miniseries from IDW Publishing.
Scottish fantasy writer Brian Ruckley will spin a new tale chronicling the events that led up to the opening of the classic 1986 feature film while casting new light on the battle between immortals throughout time.
“In the 30 years since its release, Highlander has inspired a massive cult following that craves new stories based on the original film,” senior editor Denton J. Tipton said. “Many have tried, to varying degrees of success, but Brian has crafted an exciting narrative that will honor and bolster the underpinnings of Highlander. Also, epic sword fights!”
Brent Marlis, licensing agent at Creative Licensing, expressed “we are thrilled for this partnership with IDW, as they have a tremendously talented team who will be creating a story that is both authentic to the original Highlander film and innovative to attract new fans alike.”
Joined by artist Andrea Mutti (Rebels), Ruckley will explore Connor MacLeod’s journey, both physical and internal, that led him to become humanity’s immortal champion. From medieval Scotland to Civil War-era Pennsylvania to mid-century Manhattan, readers will meet compelling new characters, such as immortal Osta Vazilek, and revisit fan favorites.
The battle for The Prize begins anew in February!
