Star Wars: The Classic Newspaper Comic
To coincide with the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope (5/25/1977), IDW Publishing is releasing a special book – the first of 3 volumes – featuring the newspaper comic strips that ran in papers from 1979 to 1980. The original strips were done by Russ Manning. All told, this first volume contains 575 reprints of the original newspapers strip. While reprinted in pieces previously, this marks the first time all of the works have been gathered together in their entirety.
IDW’s President, Greg Goldstein, remarked about the special project; “Some of these strips have been reprinted in other formats, but, like many of our other LOAC collections, this is the first fully complete, chronological collection of the strips as they originally appeared when they graced the morning papers nearly 40 years ago.”
The book is produced under a licensing agreement with Disney / Marvel Comics as well as with LucasFilm. The hardcover book will be available this May at book stores and specialty shops nationwide for $49.99.
