Independent Comic Spotlight: Summer Special

Steve McQueen Full Throttle Cool

Summer is sadly at an end, so you know what that means:  Time for another Independent Comic Spotlight!  Didn’t we just have an Independent Comic Spotlight?  Well, yes and no.  We had a “Book Book” edition, but this one is back to its roots… actual real-life comic books!  Here’s a quick rundown of the great comics I’ve been reading through from some up-and-coming creators from all over the comic book world.

Tuff Ladies – Till Lukat

* Fans of the early feminist movement, scholars, and graphic novel aficionados will enjoy this book that takes a look at women pioneers in every field imaginable.

My Rating: 3/5

Amiculus: A Secret History – Tavis Horseman, Giancarlo Caracuzzo

* Secret histories, mythology, and political posturing are enough to keep you intrigued while reading this first volume of what will most assuredly be an ongoing classic look at a world very different on the outside, but not too much when you get right down to it.

My Rating: 3/5

Abominable Glory – Martin Hayes, Chris Askham

* History meets monsters in this great military horror graphic novel from our friends overseas.

My Rating: 3/5

The Written – Ben Galley, Mike Shipley

* A successful Kickstarter graphic novel that is every fantasy lover’s cup of tea, this giant graphic novel gives us a taste of a world that is so well developed that you couldn’t help but wonder why it even needed a crowd-funding campaign to come to fruition.

My Rating: 3/5

Solar Flare – James Haick III, Branco Javanovic

* Another Kickstarter dream come true arrives in the form of this science fiction epic (with the first two issues out) that is sure to be a classic for fans of indy sci-fi.

My Rating: 3/5

Steve McQueen: Full-Throttle Cool – Dwight Zimmerman, Greg Scott

* One of the world’s coolest actors takes center stage with lots of action, drama, and cool rides in this comic by the great Dwight Zimmerman.

My Rating: 3/5

George W. Bush: Vampire Hunter – Steve Waldinger, Claudia Aguirre

* Significantly more tongue-in-cheek than the popular novel (and movie) about another certain president who hunted vampires, this is a fun read for those who need a laugh or two.

My Rating: 3/5
