Dark matter. Superheroes and villains. Alternate Dimensions. And an evil group trying to conquer it all! What more could you ask for in a comic book? How about a soundtrack. Well, I am here to tell you about Those Shadow People, a comic book adventure that has everything. Created by Phil Buck, Those Shadow People is a visual and musical journey.
Dr. Saber was researching dark matter. His daughter, Sarah, came to visit and, through an accidental contamination of the dark matter, suddenly had super powers. They battled a group of villains known as the Unknown Party that had opened a portal to another dimension, the Shadow Realm. With the help of Easy Wind, Lady Gold Glove, and Heavy Duty, Dr. Saber and Sarah were able to thwart the Unknown Party, return to Earth, and destroy the portal. But, will that really be the end of this tale?
There is a whole cast of interesting and unique characters on both sides of this story. The first issue of this book was released back in 2012 and was a comic book with two songs on a 7″ vinyl album. This year, for Free Comic Book Day, you may be able to get your hands on a special Those Shadow People #0, an interlude between issues #1 and #2. Issue #2 is currently in the works, but does not have a firm release date. Those Shadow People #0 will release on April 28, 2015, just in time to be available for FCBD.
This is not only a comic book series, but it is also some really cool music. The upcoming release of issue #0 will be more music heavy as the group wants to showcase that side of their creative power a little more. Issue #0 will be paired with a four song EP that can be purchased for download from Nematode Records, the production company behind the music. There is also a limited special package that you can get, since this download is “Name Your Price”. Anyone who contributes $5 or more for this package will get a special “physical swag pack” including a printed copy of the comic, a package of five (5) Those Shadow People trading cards and a vinyl sticker, and three (3) Those Shadow People buttons. But, you better hurry as this is only available to the first 100 people!
I wanted to leave you with a spotlight of one of the pages that really highlights the artistic talent on this book. Quinn Mcgowan does the illustration and Iwan Joko Triyono does the colors. They are really very well done. This book is worth a look and the music just blends it all together.
