Fresh on the heels of the Luke Cage season one launch on Netflix, the launch date for the next show in the growing Netflix arsenal has been launched. On March 17, 2017 season one of the Danny Rand focused show will hit Netflix queues across the globe and once again thousands of subscribers will eagerly login, queue up the show and not be seen for hours and hours while they binge on the latest Marvel Netflix offering.
Iron Fist will be the last single-character focused show before the ensemble series hits the streaming service. I am talking about, of course, The Defenders. The Defenders will bring together a large number of character that we have seen throughout the Netflix-verse thus far such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, Foggy, Stick, Claire Temple, The Punisher, Danny Rand and Misty Knight.
But just who is Iron Fist and who is Danny Rand? Scott Buck, Executive Producer recently said in an interview; “Danny Rand is a very complicated character. He’s a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who’s still trying to figure out what exactly that all means,”
Whether the show follows closely to his history remains to be seen, as they did deviate from source material from Luke Cage, but the heart of the character will surely remain the same. First appearing in Marvel Premiere #15 in the year 1974, the character Danny Rand became the storied and iconic character known as Iron Fist that still has a strong place in the marvel mythos and current Marvel Comics story lines. Danny Rand, as a child, was brought to a magical, mystical and ancient city known as K’un-Lun by his father. K’un-Lun is located somewhere in a mountain range eons old, known in Sanskrit as “abode of the snow” but known today as the Himalayan Mountain Range. During the trek a tragedy occurred that was carried out by Rand’s business partner. He was found frozen and near death by the citizens on K’un-Lun who then took him in and raised him and taught him all his martial arts skills. He eventually challenged Shou-La to fight and he won the power of the Iron Fist. It was not long after this that he was able to travel back to New York City where he met Misty Knight, Luke Cage and his other friends such as Colleen Wing.
Will this be Danny’s back story for the Netflix series? Let’s tune in in March to find out
