Batman is coming. More specifically, “The Batman” is coming. He’s coming this summer, the summer of 2017, too. This is all according to Jeremy Irons, the famous actor who portrayed Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred Pennyworth in the blockbuster hit “Batman V Superman” recently.
As one of the highlights of Batman V Superman, along with Ben Affleck’s portrayal or Batman/Bruce Wayne, Irons was not dissuaded by the reviews that lambasted the film. When Variety asked him about this very thing, he said;
“Not at all. I was very pleased by the numbers. Zack seems to get a hard time from the press, which is strange. I don’t know if it has to do with the sort of secrecy that surrounds the making of it all. But the audience liked it, which in the end is all that matters.”
In speaking about upcoming outings as Alfred such as 2017’s Justice League and, of course “The Batman”, Batman’s solo film in the new DC Entertainment Universe , the Academy Award-winning actor also said;
“Ben’s going to make a Batman film next summer. He promises me there’s going to be a bit more of Alfred in that. In the “Justice League” we have seven major lead characters and I’m the butler to one of them. It’s clear I will not be dominating that film.”
As previously reported by comicbooked.com, in this article, The Batman will see Joe Manganiello as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke and JK Simmons will be playing Commissioner Gordon. Speculation abounds as to whether or not Jared Leto will appear as The Joker (his Suicide Squad character) and if Robin would appear yet.
Upcoming films for the DC Entertainment Universe include Wonder Woman on June 2nd 2017, Justice League on November 17, 2017, The Flash on March 23rd 2018, Aquaman on July 27, 2018, Shazam on April 5th of 2019, Justice League Pt 2 on June 14 2019. A reboot of Green Lantern is on the schedule as well as Cyborg. The Batman’s release date has not yet been announced. And let’s not forget the Harley Quinn solo movie that may be in the works…
