Judge Dredd: Mega-City One TV series ‘in development’
Judge Dredd, the “incorruptible” ruthless law enforcer will be coming to the small screen for a new television series. A new series is now “in development”. IM Global and Rebellion have come to an agreement to bring the show to a live action serial format entitled ‘Judge Dredd: Mega City One’. The show will be set in the dystopian future of Megalopolis and centered around the East Coast of the United States of America.
“We’re very excited to be beginning the journey to get more of Judge Dredd’s Mega-City One on the television screen.” said Jason and Chris Kinglsey, heads of United Kingdom Publisher and game developer Rebellion.
The show is predated by two movies. “Judge Dredd” was released in June of 1995 and saw Sylvester Stallone starring as the Judge himself. He played alongside Armand Assante, Rob Schneider, Max Von Sydow and others. The next movie, “Dredd” came out in September of 2012 and featured Karl Urban in the role of Judge Dredd for this outing. He was paired with Olivia Thirlby as Anderson and Lena Heady as the villainous Ma-Ma, head of the drug-dealing Ma-Ma Clan.
Dredd himself first appeared in 1977 in the pages of 2000 A.D. He was created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra.
“Thanks to the legions of fans who have kept up pressure on social media, and a lot of background work and enthusiasm, we aim to make a big budget production that will satisfy both our vast comics audience and the even greater general screen-watching public.” — Kingsley
