Michael Massee, The Crow + Spider-Man Actor, dies at 61

Michael MasseeThe actor who accidentally killed Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow, Michael Massee, has died. He was 61.

Massee’s death was confirmed to THR by a representative of the Los Angeles-based firm Greene & Associates.

Further details surrounding his death have remained undisclosed at this time.

In the 1994 movie by Alex Proyas, The Crow, Michael Massee played the villain “Funboy”. In one famous and tragic scene, Funboy show “the Crow” in the stomach.  Still unknown to this day is just how the prop bullet was replaced in the revolver with a live round.  The bullet that struck actor Brandon Lee (Bruce Lee’s son) on that death resulted in his death. The Crow was written by James O’Barr and was based off of his popular comic book series of the same name.

In 2012, Massee again returned to the comic book film adaption realm with the release of The Amazing Spider-Man and, in 2014 the sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  In the movies, he played Gustav Fliers, superhero name The Gentleman. In the comic books, Fliers is known for working with the Sinister Six, although he himself has no super powers.

He has also played as voice actor or support live action role in other superhero-related projects such as Catoman, Ultimate Avengers (voice of Bruce Banner), Star Wars: The Old Republic (voice acting), The X-Files a 2005 episode to The Batman entitled “Spellbinder” and 2005’s Alias.
