What do you think? I guess what you see in TV does affect you. I mean I love comic books, I love super heroes, movies, action figures, everything like that don’t get me wrong, but we live in the real world people.
The comic book universe its a great escape from reality, you might say, but we still live in the real universe. I think the intentions of this Viper guy are good, don’t get me wrong, I mean, seriously how many of us have ever dreamed about fighting crime and rescuing people? We are programmed to do good. We are human beings, sadly we get twisted and evil and make really bad choices along the way.
I would love to see a real Batman, or Spiderman, don’t get me wrong, but we have to be able to distinguish between what is real and what is fiction. There is a movie called “Defendor” with Woody Harrelson, watch it. It discusses the same subject we are talking about.
Viper is putting his life at risk, he has no superpowers (that we know of) and he is not bullet proof.
This is not the first time that we hear about costumed characters roaming the streets trying to do good. According to WikiPedia there is a few more:
Superbarrio Gómez is a Mexican “real-life superhero,” celebrity, satirist, and organizer.
Superbarrio, a high school dropout, wears red tights and a red and yellow wrestler’s mask. Rather than fight crime and corruption with violence, he uses his image to organize labor rallies and protests, and file petitions. His real identity was unknown for a long time, but he has been revealed to be Marco Rascón Córdova.
In 1996 Superbarrio declared himself a “candidate” for the 1996 United States Presidential Election and held “mock” campaign rallies in the United States and Mexico.
Also I found another interesting article regarding “Real Life Costumed Vigilantes” at Odde.com
Are we going to see more costumed superheroes trying to protect us?
I guess we shall wait and see…
Well done Burgos. Great read for sure. Viper huh? Let's get a discussion going in the forum. What does everyone think about real life superheroes, and what would they be/do if they donned the mask and cape.
Good times!
Thank You Sir!
I honestly have to say, it may seem misguided but check them out and really find out about them. While writing a graphic novel back in Philly I came into contact with a bunch of them, and in all honesty about 90% have a level head on their shoulders about what they do and how they do it. They are not vigilantes and almost all of them say that their greatest weapon is a cell phone. Their objective is to stand up for an ideal about the world around them and show that you can help to keep your neighborhoods safe, that one man can make a difference. Just take a look at them in depth before making judgement, regardles if you agree or not.
Im not judging them, they just put themselves in harms way, it is dangerous.
They are actively trying to make a difference in their areas, and i respect that, do I think they should be in tights? no. Armor is necessary, and anything otherwise is a serious risk, but if that is what they want, then I say let them do it as long as they don't break the law.
