This Thursday and Friday, February 20 and 21, 2014, New York Times bestselling author Jimmy Gownley will be at Beyond Comics in Gaithersburg and Frederick, Maryland, for the national book launch of his newest graphic novel, The Dumbest Idea Ever. Each store is hosting one night. Head to Gaithersburg on Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and to the Frederick store on Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Autographs are free and they will have copies of the book available one week before they are released nationally. You can learn more about the launch here.
This tops off a whirlwind tour of four local elementary and middle schools in the Frederick and Walkersville area. Check out this press release for more information.
“This appearance is an industry first” noted store owner Jon Cohen. “Comic book stores usually play second fiddle, but thanks to Scholastic Books and creator Jimmy Gownley we were able be the host for his new graphic novel’s national release.” Gownley’s acclaimed Amelia Rules! book series ranks highly among the best-selling all ages graphic novels, notes Mr. Cohen. “And we anticipate this new book to be right up there with other notable graphic novels such as Bone and Amulet.”
The Dumbest Idea Ever! is a poignant, funny, and insightful glimpse into the inspirations that led Jimmy Gownley to begin his career as a cartoonist. Already praised by Publisher’s Weekly and Booklist, this new all ages book is sure to be among the year’s break through graphic novels.
Copies of his brand new book will be available at these two events one full week before its national release – an unprecedented event. Autographs are free for all who attend.
In addition to his store appearances and in conjunction with Frederick County and Montgomery County Public School systems, Jimmy Gownley will be hosting presentations at four local schools. These schools will be featuring Gownley’s fan favorite “How do Cartoonist Get Their Ideas?” interactive presentation.
