If you’re a geek like the creators of Bitcoin: The Hunt for Satoshi Nakamoto then you’ll enjoy reading through the pages of the first ever bitcoin comic book, which was released by BitcoinComic.org on December 31, 2014.

What is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is one of the largest innovations in the financial world, the new kind of money that has been getting lots of attention lately as it reached the $4,000 threshold in August 2017 and continues to soar higher to almost $5,000 the month after. It is rapidly becoming a widely accepted form of digital currency, with several bitcoin exchanges located all over the globe. You can also get bitcoins today by buying them over the counter and from a bitcoin ATM.

Who Invented the Bitcoin?

This cryptocurrency was invented by Satoshi Nakamoto back in 2008. Now, no one has ever seen this person and some speculate that this name is an alias that represents a group. As investors monitor the growth of bitcoin, others are drawn to search for  who the inventor, or investors, of this controversial cryptocurrency is. It’s a great mystery, and there are those who want to uncover who this elusive persona is.

Searching for Satoshi Nakamoto

The comic book is set in a technologically advanced city, with a lot of technology, cryptocurrency, political, and sci-fi references that geeks will have a lot of fun spotting. There are three groups in pursuit of a list of men whom they are convinced to be Satoshi Nakamoto.

One of the group’s main motive for finding Satoshi is fame and fortune, while the other group simply wants to help Satoshi keep their secret identity a secret. The third one’s intent, though, is a bit vague. Despite their differences in intent, these three groups have one thing in common: none of them is sure if their current mark, a bearded and baffled geek, is actually Satoshi.

Meet the Team

Bitcoin: The Hunt for Satoshi Nakamoto was the brainchild of a group of three writers and illustrators from Spain who have a fondness for the bitcoin technology. The writers behind this literary novelty are Alex Preukschat and Josep Busquet, and the one who brought the characters to life through graphic illustrations is Jose Angel Ares Garcia.

Alex took up a business course in Germany and Spain and is also the co-editor of sound-money news site OroyFinanzas.com. According to him, their comic book received support from quite a number of big name bitcoin companies, including Coinbase, BTCChina, and Bitstamp.

How It All Started

It was in 2011 when Alex first was first exposed to bitcoin technology Amir Taaki, a software developer from the UK, presented a video about this digital currency. Alex was immediately fascinated by it. Two years later, the team started working on the comic book, October 2013 to be exact. Originally written in Spanish, the comic book has been translated into English and Polish. Alex, Josep, and Jose are also looking for publishing partners in other countries, such as Norway and Japan.

Hopefully, this is just the beginning. It will surely be interesting to see how this digital currency could evolve in the future and a geeky comic book series is something that a lot of us might actually find refreshing.
