OCTOBER MOVIE-A-DAY MARATHON: HALLOWEEN

movie a day

My internet was giving me problems yesterday, keeping me from streaming or downloading any movies for my marathon. Seeing as how I hadn’t missed a day until now, I was heartbroken. As luck would have MV5BNDMwOTk5MDgyMF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMDgwNDgwNzE@._V1_SX214_AL_it, AMC was playing at work and they were having a Halloween marathon.

Halloween has always been one of my guilty pleasure horror movies of the season. For one, the title IS the holiday, and the film series has always been a little on the experimental side.

As it hails from the 80s, an era of wooden acting and convenient plot twists, of course Halloween leaves an awful lot of room for improvement. I mean, even Rob Zombie has tried to improve on it!

There are some tropes that Halloween really flexes, solidly standing as a classic. The lumbering, silent villain with inscrutable intentions and a love of collateral damage of the amoral teen variety, the teenage leading lady which just so happens to be the scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis, and an early version of the tableau climax that is present in most 90s horror films. While this film isn’t exactly cinematic gold, it will always be a pillar of my Samhain Cinema!

My rating on the scare-o-meter is a generous 3 out of 5.
