Just about halfway through the month and real life has to step in and make things difficult for me. Due to some heavy hours at work, I had to go with a movie that I was familiar enough with to enjoy without having to pay absolute attention. I chose my #2 horror movie of all time, Wishmaster. From the incredible performance by Andrew Divoff (the djinn) to the beautifully ironic premise of “Be careful what you wish for” this masterpiece of horror delivers in everyway. The film is dark, but like Nightmare on Elm Street, has an undoubtedly playful side. The opening tableau of chaos in an ancient city is a powerful leaping point for what becomes an entertaining trip through the dangers of excess.
For those of you who are fans of the 80’s and 90’s horror genre, you also get a couple of wonderful actors that you may recognize from other landmark films in the industry; Tammy Lauren and Robert England.
I can’t force you to like it, nor can I force you to watch it, but if you are looking for a solid and well thought out classic that can make you both cringe and cackle, the Wishmaster is a wish come true.
My scare-o-meter rating 5 out of 5.
