Last year I had the opportunity to attend the Saboten-con as a guest in Scottsdale Arizona.  I spent my days behind the table helping to promote myself and projects and even led a few panels.  While enjoying my time at the convention I met many great people, including my weekend neighbor David Doub.  David is the writer and publisher for Dusk Comics (http://www.duskcomics.com) and had traveled to Arizona to promote his work with one of his artists Jolene Houser  http://jolene-h.deviantart.com/ .

Jolene never showed up to the convention however, because on the way there she got in a car accident, resulting in a fractured skull, 17 stitches in her forehead, 6 staples on her elbow from a large laceration, and a fractured #1 vertebrae.  As soon as we heard the news preparations began on everything from a get well poster signed by fans attending the convention, to fundraisers.  David spent most of the day Saturday at the hospital visiting Jolene and when he got back to the convention he decided to make a support book.

Confident that she would pull through, he knew how horrific hospital costs are and realized the best way to help her out was to compile a bunch of art donated by great artists into a book that fans can enjoy.  Her friends were happy to help and the support book has been published and is available for sale on Amazon.  A few examples of the artists involved are:

Dusk 2 can be ordered here: http://www.amazon.com/Dusk-Vol-2-David-Doub/dp/0982920512/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1295846187&sr=8-2

The collaboration of the artist community was incredible and fortunately we all benefit by being able to not only help Jolene, but by gaining some awesome art in the process.
