Scattershot News – April 24, 2021

scattershot

Welcome to another edition of Scattershot News, the news that is as reliable as the words of wisdom from rich actors telling the rest of us how to weather the storm of this pandemic. Never fear, your servants can just go grocery shopping and do all your laundry.

WARNING: This article may contain images that are offensive, statements that are sarcastic, and ideas that my cause a snowflake to melt in their hemp stockings. Maybe there are SPOILERS, as well.

Unlike the Hollywood elite, I do have some interesting things to talk about today. I will be throwing out a lot of news from the month of April, and end of March, since it has been a few weeks since I threw tons of data at you with the hope that you read and absorb so much until your head explodes. SCANNERS STYLE!

scattershotFirst off, I want to give a blanket thank you to our friends over at CBR, Bleeding Cool, and all the other sites for reporting these things that I am going to summarize here for all of you. Secondly, if I had all that kind of money behind me, multiple employees writing articles, and a regular paycheck from my work here, you can bet your ass that these articles would show up at least once a week and maybe so often that you would get sick of hearing from me. Let’s get running!

BIG MOVIE NEWS

This may not be the happiest section of this week’s article, but you need to know.

If you have been making your Venom/Carnage cosplay for the upcoming June release of the Venom: Let there be Carnage, you can take a break. Sony has delayed this film, yet again, to September 24, 2021. The want to make sure that the crew feels comfortable with filming. Originally, the film was set for an October, 2020, release date, then moved to June 25th, then September 14th, and finally, the 24th. All I can say is, it better be good.

On the animated front, a lot of us are looking forward to Batman: The Long Halloween Part One. The cast list has been revealed, and there are some great names on there. Jensen Ackles, Dean Winchester from Supernatural, will be voicing Bruce Wayne/Batman. That makes this very exciting to me, since I really like him as an actor. Another interesting part of this cast is Naya Rivera, former Glee star who passed away in June 2020, was able to complete her voice work for Selena Kyle/Catwoman for this new film. According to our friends over at Hollywood News, the list also includes Josh Duhamel as Harvey Dent, Billy Burke as James Gordon, Titus Welliver as Carmine Falcone, David Dastmalchian as Calendar Man, Troy Baker as Joker, Amy Landecker as Barbara Gordon, Julie Nathanson as Gilda Dent, Jack Quaid as Alberto, Fred Tatasciore as Solomon Grundy, and Alastair Duncan as Alfred Pennyworth.

DC has put the kibosh on both the New Gods and The Trench films that were headed up by Tom King and Ava DuVernay.  Could this be because they realized that too many of their movies have sucked? Probably not. More likely, this has to do with the problems of filming in the world of fear we currently live in. They left some hope there, by saying that the projects will remain in the hands of their creators, in case they proceed with them in the future.

Godzilla Vs. Kong opened to the largest Pandemic Era box office opening. If you haven’t seen it, you should. Big monsters, cool fights, and [SPOILER ALERT] a giant robot Godzilla! Lots of fun.

Shazam 2 has announced the casting of Lucy Liu as Calypso. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is shaping up to have a pretty solid cast. I think that the first film was excellent, as it was finally a film from Warner Bros. that too a more tongue in cheek approach to comic book characters. If you can’t make fun of yourself, you just can’t really relate to your audience.

COMIC BOOK NEWS

After the recent release of the new Alien series from Marvel, the publisher has announced that all Predator projects are on hold for the foreseeable future. Maybe because the Aliens series is just bad?

August 2021 marks the end of the Invader Zim series from Oni Lion Forge. Jhonen Vasquez will be rejoining the series for the finale, Invader Zim: Dookie Loop Horror. Hard to believe that Oni has been publishing these books since 2015. According to their press announcement, this will be the end of Invader Zim comics at Oni Lion Forge.

Joye Hummel, the first women ever hired to write Wonder Woman comics, has passed at the age of 97. Back in the 1940s, she was brought on to write Wonder Woman with a woman’s perspective.

Skybound X is an upcoming five-issue weekly series that will be an anthology series of stories from Skybound bringing Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley, the creators of Invincible.

Marvel relaunches Amazing Fantasy with some different types of stories using characters plucked from different times and dropped on an island, a la Lost. Spider-Man, Black Widow, and Captain America will star in the series, to start.

DC Comics is releasing another Bat-book, Batman Secret Files. Each issue will be a one-shot highlighting a member of the Bat-Family. Could be interesting. Look for more info from Jeff in his Baturday articles.

On the other hand, history is closing a chapter for Superman. As the main series, Superman, comes to an end, DC Comics has vowed to never again publish a series titled Superman. The new series will be called Superman: Son of Kal-El

scattershotLast one: the new Masters of the Universe series on Netflix is going to get a comic book prequel, so be on the lookout for that 4-issue series later this year.

Thanks for reading. I hope you learned something or that you choked on all the information. Also, be sure to stay tuned to all our great content here. And read the new Swamp Thing series. I has an all new Swamp Thing and is really a pretty good series.
