According to the website Deadline, the upcoming WB / DC movie Shazam! will now be two movies within the DC Entertainment Universe.
When we told you last week about movie announcements that would be coming soon, we were sure they’d be along soon. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Hiram Garcia recently met with Geoff Johns in the DC corporate offices regarding the movie, slated for wide release in April of 2019. That means a Black Adam movie would not be released until at least 2020.
The meeting went very well and all parties came out of the meeting and immediately took to social media to tease of its success and share their delight.
“Had a very cool and strategic meeting with the heads of DC about their entire universe. As a hard core DC fan, to get a real sense of the tonal shifts and developments coming in these future movies has me fired up. Something we, as DC fans have all been waiting for for a very long time. Hope, optimism & FUN. Even when talking about the the most ruthless villain/anti-hero of all time finally coming to life. Prepare yourselves DC Universe. #KneelAtHisFeet #OrGetCrushedByHisBoot #BlackAdam.” The Rock stated rather elatedly on his Instagram account.
Apparently, not only did they discuss the Shazam! movie but now also the prospect of Black Adam having his own movie alongside Shazam’s. Johnson is a Hollywood juggernaut with a string of critically and financially successful movies such as the ongoing Fast and the Furious franchise and the television series Ballers. He is scheduled to be in Baywatch, reprising David Hasselhoff’s character Mitch Buchanon, as well as carrying on the Jumanji franchise, Doc Savage, the “Journey” franchise and even a reboot of Big Trouble in Little China.
Whatever he said to Geoff Johns last week impressed him enough to move forward with the Black Adam movie. Big things coming, he said. Big things, like the Rock big, Black Adam big.
Johnson also wrote “Thrilled with the tonal shifts happening in the #DCUniverse. Hope, Optimismm & Fun. Here we go! #BringThatLightning”
I’ll say it again, bring it!
