After DC / Warner Brothers announced that a Shazam! movie would be in the works, there was not much more in the way of developments, sound bites or even leaks about the project. But recently, there has been a flurry of activity surrounding the project, some of which indicates that big announcements and development updates will be forthcoming sooner rather than later.
After a long period of radio silence, the movie started showing up in social media around the end of December 2016 when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Henry Cavill posted this photograph to the Cavill’s Instagram account, with the quote “Today we drink like gentleman and come together as friends. We’re excited for what the future brings. #DangerousGentleman #DCWorldsWillCollide #Superman.”:
This viral marketing has gotten fans of the two DC characters – Superman and Johnson’s character Black Adam – excited and seemingly whet their proverbial appetites in anticipation of further news and the release of further information about the film, which has remained mysterious and elusive.
Most recently, both Johnson and Hiram Garcia took to their social media accounts to announce some successful meetings and, because of that, big announcements will be forthcoming shortly.
Geoff Johns chimed in on the meeting today, saying it was “one of my favorite meetings ever…“;
Johnson wrote on Instagram “Had a very cool and strategic meeting with the heads of DC about their entire universe. As a hard core DC fan, to get a real sense of the tonal shifts and developments coming in these future movies has me fired up. Something we, as DC fans have all been waiting for for a very long time. Hope, optimism & FUN. Even when talking about the the most ruthless villain/anti-hero of all time finally coming to life. Prepare yourselves DC Universe. #KneelAtHisFeet #OrGetCrushedByHisBoot #BlackAdam.”
On the same day, as seen at the top of this article, Hiram Garcia tweeted out “Great meeting today at @dccomics talkin’ #Shazam #BlackAdam & more! Big things are coming. Get ready #JustSayTheWord,”
Big things are coming, he says.
Later he wrote “Thrilled with the tonal shifts happening in the #DCUniverse. Hope, Optimismm & Fun. Here we go! #BringThatLightning”
That’s right, Garcia, Bring it!
