The San Diego Comic Con is just a week away and there’s a whole slew of news leading up to it! The big comic companies might just get all the attention in the upcoming con with their recent announcement of yet another lame reboot or relaunch or re-whatever, but the small press folks will still be there to chug away with their quality stories. We have some movie news, comic news and even some SDCC related news from a bunch of small press companies. Help support the indie comics on SDCC!
Arcana Comics is going to have a busy San Diego Comic Con this year from July 11th – July 15th! Not only will the publisher be offering a slew of SDCC Exclusive content, but they will be debuting a lot of trades, which will see print later this year through Diamond and other distribution channels. Below is a run-down of just some of the SDCC Exclusives they’re offering this year, plus some of the books debuting at Booth 2415! Don’t forget to pick up their new mega cross-over event Intrinsic.
TITLE: John Henry: The Steam Age SDCC Exclusive Preview
BOOTH: Arcana Comics 2415 PRICE: $5.00 / LIMITED TO 200 COPIES
DESCRIPTION: John Henry, a former slave, wasn’t about to let some new-fangled steam hammer replace his ability to earn an honest wage as a steel driving man. He’d beat that machine, or die with his hammer in his hand. We all know the outcome of that legendary contest. In this alternate history, however, John doesn’t die in his heroic effort, but instead slips into a coma, only to awaken to his worst nightmare. A robotic uprising has occurred, and a new age has dawned – The Steam Age. Now, the only thing that can free the human race from the very machines they’ve created is John and his hammer. “John Henry: The Steam Age” is an exciting re-imagining of American folk hero John Henry in a SteamPunk setting.
TITLE: A Field Guide to Cryptozoology: The Strange and Fantastic
BOOTH: Arcana Comics 2415 PRICE: $5.00 / LIMITED TO 200 COPIES

TITLE: The Inventor SDCC Exclusive Cover
BOOTH: Arcana Comics 2415 PRICE: $20.00 / LIMITED TO 150 COPIES
DESCRIPTION: During a time when inventors were known as wizards and corporations considered their kingdoms, emerged an extraordinary league of gentlemen who shaped the modern world with their minds, money, and machines. At the eye of the storm stood Nikola Tesla, a mythic inventor whose genius bordered insanity as he blurred the lines between magic and science.
TITLE: Creepsville SDCC Exclusive Preview
BOOTH: Arcana Comics 2415 PRICE: $5.00 / LIMITED TO 150 COPIES
DESCRIPTION: A group of high school outcasts, each alienated for a different reason, are thrown together as the staff of the school paper, but these kids just happen to live in Creepsville: a small retro-American town where monsters, humans, aliens, superheroes, robots, and mad scientists all live and work together. By Bill Rude and “Doc” Wyatt.
They’ll also debut a ton of other titles at the Con. Look for titles like “The Evil Tree”, “Pixies” “Koni Konfidential,” and “Becoming.” You can find out all about these titles and more by going to www.Arcanacomics.com
BLUEWATER Productions just announced a new partnership with Pleroma Entertainment to produce two films based off Bluewater properties “Insane Jane” and “Tom Corbett: Space Cadet.” Two very diverse titles. “Insane Jane,” is a mentally unstable heroine while “Tom Corbett” is a traditional 50’s sci-fi hero.
INSANE JANE: Take youthful energy. Add in some over-active imagination. Mix in some powdered donuts. Sprinkle it with delusional disorder and you get … Insane Jane! The kookiest action hero of the 21st century. Will Jane save the day? Will Jane destroy the world? Will she remember to take her medication?
TOM CORBETT SPACE CADET: Based on the novel series by Carey Rockwell comes Tom Corbett: Space Cadet. Juggling schoolwork, cadet training and saving the world Tom is on the adventure of his life in his new adventures. The Corbett comic book was transformed earlier this year into an audio drama on Sirius/XM with Colonial Radio Theatre.
“We could not be more thrilled to team up with Pleroma Entertainment. ‘Insane Jane’ and ‘Tom Corbett: Space Cadet’ are two comic books that we thought would make great properties for film and television when we created them,” said Darren Davis, President of Bluewater Productions.
“The partnership between Bluewater and Pleroma presents an opportunity for us to produce two, if not more, of Bluewater’s most popular books as feature films. It is a partnership that I have personally looked forward too for many years and it is a good thing for both companies. Together, we are going to make great things happen,” said Ray Brown, CEO and producer of Pleroma.
Bluewater also has film projects set up with Universal Studios and Paramount Picture and other studios for their titles “Nanny & Hank,” “Legend of Isis,” “10th Muse,” and “Sinbad Rogue of Mars.” Bluewater also developed a comic book called “Wrath of the Titans.” Both Insane Jane and Tom Corbett Space cadet are in graphic novel form and can be purchased at comic book stores, bookstores and on Amazon.
That’s not the only big news from Bluewater Productions. Not only do they have a Katy Perry, Demi Lovato comic coming out this year, but Comicbooked.com’s very own Raphael Moran wrote the new FAME- NICK JONAS book. Here’s what I had to say on the subject-
I’m a 32 year old married man with child. I’m not exactly the target audience for a book like this, which is why this book is so different from a lot of Bluewater books. I’m writing it from a outsider view. My goal is simple, if you’re not a fan of Nick Jonas by the time you finish reading this book, then I haven’t done my job. My wife has diabetes, so the struggles Nick and the characters have in this book were very personal to me and I think it’s a great uplifting book for anyone suffering from this horrible disease.”
You can order a copy of the new book exclusively on itunes here.
