Stan Lee is one of the most prolific creators in the comic book world, and even five months after his passing, you can tune into the Line Webtoons app and see brand new content from Stan Lee and Tom Akel today.

Line Webtoons is a great app for Apple or Android and can be downloaded for free. There is literally a metric ton of great content absolutely free.

We all know how great the characters and worlds that Stan Lee created have been, so why not check out this brand new world and meet some awesome new characters like Tom Tanner. Notice the iconic Stan Lee alliteration, as in Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, and the Silver Surfer. Tom is just a regular teenage hacker who gets really bad headaches. Sounds normal, right? But, in a world of metahumans, he has to have some powers.

Tom is a Technomancer, a person who can speak to and control machines. Very cool. He is also a high school student and part time hacktivist. All of this sets the stage for a beautifully written story complete with awesome artwork by Andie Tong and music and sound effects that really bring the story to life.

I had the opportunity to speak with Tom Akel, the writer of Backchannel about where the story is going and what it was like to work with a legend like Stan Lee.

With eight chapters already live, and the ninth chapter dropping today for free, Backchannel is already well underway, but there are still a lot of questions to be answered. Tom assured me that there are still a lot of chapters left to this story and that while some questions will be answered in the 26 episode run, be prepared for even more great story to come. Rest assured, they know exactly where this story is going.

Tom had a working relationship with Stan Lee for the last 15 years, but it was not until Backchannel that the two actually collaborated on a project. The story has been on hiatus and this will be the first new original work from Stan Lee released since his death.

“He was a very smart and caring man. People do not always realize what a genius he was, because they always just saw the cameos. Stan was seen as a figurehead by many, but he was a brilliant creator.”

Stan Lee will be greatly missed, but it is good to know that there is still new content from such a great creator. Check it out and let us know what you think about it on our Facebook page.

Excelsior!
