Thursday’s Valiant Effort: April 3, 2014

Valiant Effort

Spring has sprung and Valiant is about to spring some great stuff on us. This month will bring the ramp up towards Armor Hunters. Only one month until Free Comic Book Day. Plus there is Rai #1 to look forward to as well as all of the other Valiant First books coming out this year. This week’s Thursday’s Valiant Effort includes two great reviews, so on with the show.

Valiant Effort Archer & Armstrong #19 – Continuing “Mission: Improbable”, #19 of Archer & Armstrong continues the battle between our daring duo and Bloodshot and H.A.R.D. Corps. This issues starts with an unlikely alliance between Armstrong and the very people who swore to see him destroyed, the heads of the different secret organizations, in order to hunt down and retrieve Archer, who has been taken by the H.A.R.D. Corps team. Archer is not taking this lightly either as he continues to fight to escape. Of course, they have him so drugged up that all the fighting that happens in the first half of this book is while Archer is actually in a drug induced coma. His body just takes over and the H.A.R.D. Corps team is no match for him. Then he wakes up. Disciple is hurt bad and the team is beaten. Archer ends up sealed in a medical ward and has to race save Disciple’s life. Bloodshot is around, but he is busy tracking down a mole within Project Rising Spirit, only to work with her to get to the surface just in time to meet up with Armstrong. Fred van Lente continues to write a powerful tale and the art team of Pere Perez and David Baron does an awesome job bringing the action and suspense to life. A real nail-biter and I can’t wait for the final part of “Mission: Improbable” in Bloodshot and H.A.R.D. Corps #21.

Valiant EffortQuantum and Woody #9 -This issue kicks off a new story arc with a bang, literally, as Woody is busy blowing up some robot armor wearing bad guys. Meanwhile, Quantum goes to see their lawyer to ask about adding Woody to the will, but that is before he finds that Woody has actually hijacked one of the large robot armors and is taking it out for a joyride. Needless to say words are exchanged. Then Quantum challenges Woody to one day of acting as a responsible adult in order to even be considered as a member of the family. Yeah, like that will happen. He job hunts, he banks, he robbed a bank… Wait, what? Oh, it happened a while ago, but for some reason the bank holds a grudge. And, of course, this just proves Quantum’s point that Woody will never be more than a childish idiot. And, as luck would have it, the brothers end the issue on opposite sides of the law and opposite sides of the same job. This could get interesting. James Asmus writes a great story and this issues brings a special artist on board, Kano. Great all the way around.

That is it for this week. As we get closer to FCBD there may be some more news about any other special plans or any new revelations about changes or additions to Valiant’s schedule over the coming months. Also we are coming up on some great conventions, so stay tuned for any news related to them. As always, Read Valiant First.

TOP SECRET REVEAL: We are privy to some special news about big plans for C2E2 in Chicago this year. Someone leaked the plans for a special project that Valiant was hoping to surprise their fans with, but we have them here. This will be World-Record attempt and should be something to see. Check it out.

Valiant EffortJust so you know… this was an April Fool’s joke. Just in case you had your hopes up. But, great one, guys. I love the banana for scale. Till next week.
