A little less than a week ago we brought you news that Sony would be, along with the recently announced Venom movie, be expanding their Spider-man franchise with a movie centering around The Black Cat (Felicia Hardy) and Silver Sable (Silver Sablinova). But before we put the proverbial horse before the cart, we must first experience Spider-man: Homecoming and we will get to do just that at the beginning of July. On March 28th, the latest trailer was release for the movie and here it is:

There are a lot of people excited for this movie, which SHOULD reset and relaunch the Sony Spidey-verse, thanks to help and guidance from Kevin Feige and the folks at Marvel Studios.  One of those many folks who are excited is non other than Spider-man himself, Tom Holland.

CinemaCon 2017 kicked off on March 27th and Variety was able to catch up with Mr. Holland and get his feedback not only on being Spider-man but also his impression of the new franchise announcements;

When asked if he was a Spider-man fan prior to landing to coveted role he had this to say;

” I had the Spider-Man costume, I had bed sheets, toys, you name it. I’ve always had an argument with my best friend that Spider-Man was way better than Batman. I was a massive fan growing up.”

Variety also asked Holland if his Spider-man would appear in either the Venom movie or in the Black Cat movie and he played coy;

“I have no idea. I haven’t read a script. I haven’t seen any sort of concept art, so that would be something I would decide on when I see material.”

Another question that was posed revolved around Spider-man: Homecoming and what makes him different and what makes this movie stand apart from the slew of other superhero movies we already have or that are slated for release;

We definitely focus on a younger superhero. From the vast amount of superhero movies that we’ve seen, we’ve seen the soldier, the scientist, the billionaire, and now it’s time to see the kid. There’s something interesting in giving a 15-year-old incredible powers and seeing what he would do with it.

“I strongly believe a 15-year-old would have the time of his life. It was important that we see Peter Parker enjoying his powers, but also using them to do good.”

So what can we pull from these responses? Well, for one thing, Tom Holland loves the Spider-man character and has apparently for quite some time. That tells me that there will be a certain level of care and effort put in to making sure his portrayal of Peter Parker is the best it can be. We can also say that, while he hasn’t read any scripts, that Holland is open to appearing in spin-offs and future Spider-verse films.  We can also derive that Spider-man: Homecoming will be fresh and feel new in a sea of seemingly formulaic superhero cinema.
