I remember watching The Conjuring the week that it was released in theaters. I also remember that it was not really all that scary… Except for that frickin’ doll. A ceramic doll named Annabelle that was possessed and caused evil things to happen. Scariest part of the movie.
It only makes sense that this scary evil doll would be the focus of a spin-off movie. Annabelle, directed by John R. Leonetti and starring Annabelle Wallis, Alfre Woodward, and Eric Ladin, promises to be as creepy as Child’s Play, but with more of a realistic feel. I have found that movies that want to scare you but then try to take a sidestep out of reality tend to be more about the fantasy of it, and not nearly as scary to me.
The scares get real when there is something, an every day object, that may already have an inherent creepiness to it, like the porcelain doll. The eyes that close when you lay them down. The soft body but hard smooth face. The paleness of their skin… All creepy and beautiful at the same time.
We have a trailer for this awesome looking creepy scary movie, so please take a look at Annabelle and then we can talk about it.
Interested? I know I am. This has a feel like a little bit of Last House on the Left and some Child’s Play stirred together with the lurking evil of Insidious. There is some real potential for this to be an awesome scary movie. Will it be? Stay tuned to Comic Booked for a full review when Annabelle releases in October 2014, just in time for Halloween.
can’t wait! loved the conjuring.
I’d love to know if this is still going to include Ed and Lorraine Warren. This doesn’t seem to look like it’s based on the true story of Annabel similar to the way the Conjuring was based on a true story… but I’d be really excited if it were.
