According to THR, Paramount TV and Writer / Executive Producer Kyle Killen (Lone Star, The Beaver) have combined forces to bring an Image Comics comic book series and graphic novel to life. That novel is non other than Ed Brubaker’s Velvet.
This will mark the first time that the network has jumped in to the comic book and graphic novel genre.
“It’s in the world of Wonder Woman and cast right and with the right pedigree? It’s a big idea and we think Kyle is great,” Kevin Kay, the President of the Paramount Network told THR in an interview regarding the breaking news.
Indeed, the story revolves around female super-spy Velvet Templeton. The book launched in October of 2013 and ran for 16 issues, up until July of 2016. There were also 3 volumes of trade paperback and a fairly recent deluxe hardcover edition.
When the Deluxe hardcover edition was released at the beginning of 2017, Image comics described the story and the book best:
What if the secretary to the man running the world’s most top secret spy agency was actually, once upon a time, their most dangerous weapon? VELVET is a groundbreaking work from one of the bestselling teams in comics, and now Velvet Templeton’s first major storyline is collected in one oversized deluxe hardback with behind-the-scenes extras and articles. A must-have for any Brubaker & Epting fan
A must-have indeed. This is one I will be waiting to see. In the mean time head out and pick up some floppies or some trades and get acquainted with Brubaker’s spy-thriller. You won’t regret it!
