If you look at the latest promo materials for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2 movie, you will notice a nearly familiar cast. I say nearly familiar because one of the ensemble has reverted to their baby form. I am talking, of course, about Groot – Baby Groot.
Director James Gunn is asked a lot about this by fans and in interviews. He responded to this on Twitter, seen on the left:
” How is Vin Diesel going to voice the kid Groot in the sequel? Wouldn’t his heavy voice sound odd on it?” someone tweeted to Gunn today.
His coy and amusing response to this popular question is; “You don’t think the guy that plays Homer Simpson talks like that all the time, do you? Vin is an actor capable of doing all sorts of voices.” It is funny and a bit facetious but the point is clear. Vin Diesel is perfectly capable of translating a Baby Groot voice successfully for this sequel.
At the 2016 San Diego Comic Con, Kevin Feige spoke about Baby Groot right around the time of the Marvel Panel in Hall H. He said; “When it comes to a Guardians of the Galaxy film, a James Gunn script, it’s not just about the funny, it’s not just about the action, it’s about the heart. And the amount of heart that you get out of this trash panda raccoon and now this little twig baby Groot is actually awe-inspiring. It is amazing what he’s done with those two characters.”
So apparently, even though Rocket is his regular adult self and Groot will be a baby with a baby Vin Diesel voice, they are still very much friends and this will play a part in the plot for the movie.
Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 stars Chris Pratt (Star Lord), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Elizabeth Debicki (Ayesha), Sylvester Stallone (Classified), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Dave Bautista (Drax), Kurt Russell (Ego), Glenn Close (Nova Prime) and will open May 5 2017
