Wasteland Weekend, an ultimate Mad Max immersive event held annually in a hot, sweaty sand mass called California City, CA is mayhem at it’s finest. Spikes, dirt, paint, cars, music, leather and nightly entertainment make this hotbed of ‘hella good time’ a must add for your bucket list.
In it’s seventh year, this fiercely designed, largest post-apocalyptic festival hit over 2,500 attendees and dominated the California desert. Coming from basically… everywhere… participants scoped costume parts all year, prepping to join their themed tribes in PA style. Newby to vet post-apocalytic dresser, all built their in-character costumes to look real and scream ‘witness me’ like Nux, in the most believably intense way.
Cormac Kehoe, the Milwaukee Mad Max Run host and incredibly brilliant photographer, took the most amazing snaps below. These pics make you want to shave your head, pierce something while wearing leather and yelling quotes from Fury Road!
Seriously, this fully immersive event gets 5 out of 5 stars for being straight up bad ass. Next year, make this ‘world of fire and blood’ your home for a few days, you’ll have no regrets!
correction… it’s not Bakersfield. It’s near California City, much farther east and south from Bakersfield. Identifying it as “on the edge of the Mojave Desert, Northeast of Los Angeles” would be a more accurate, appropriate, and understandable description.
Thanks dude! Awesome!!!
