Global Flash Mob! @RiellyGeek (Kristin Rielly) had a vision that became reality at noon, 6 June 2015! The #WEWANTWIDOW movement started, in hopes this phenom would take root and pulse throughout the country and the world. The main goal was to begin sending the message to the movie industry – ‘we’ want more Black Widow in media outlets, movies, toys and merchandise!
City Flash Mob Captains volunteered in various cities from NYC to Tampa, Seattle, Orlando, Sacramento, Chicago, Milwaukee to Ottawa and Sydney. 16 official Black Widow cosplay group events took place in the United States, Australia and Canada. By 7pm that night #WEWANTWIDOW hit almost 4,700 Tweets! Many unplanned events happened after the word spread – many more wanted to be a part of it!

Supporters were encouraged to change their social media profile pictures to reflect their support of the movement, hashtag big time #WEWANTWIDOW, and cosplay the heck out of Black Widow! There were a ton of talented cosplayers who looked fab in their red wigs, kick butt boots and black Shield uniform! Check out #WEWANTWIDOW to see all the groups involved in this worldwide flash mob event!
No Flash Mob City Captain in Tennessee – but that didn’t stop con goers from getting in the movement at Fanboy Con in Knoxville, TN and Memphis Con in Memphis, TN! We all agreed – there is definitely room for more heroes regardless of who they are – but Black Widow definitely got the shaft in merchandise and toys! Thanks @RiellyGeek, this was a great idea!!! They held #WEWANTWIDOW signs and took pictures of their support in this quest for more female super heroes, especially more Black Widow! Tennessee represented!
Every little tinsy bit helps get the word out we want super heroes we can respect and look up to in every facet of life and every country, genre, gender, race or ethnicity! Let’s not let anyone outside of our circle of hero love – including Black Widow ! Keep the momentum going, maybe Disney or Marvel Entertainment might listen! The TV industry listened, they brought back another one of our strong, female role models – Agent Carter – for another season!
WE CAN DO IT FOLKS – LET’S KEEP #WEWANTWIDOW MOVING!
There is hope out there!
