Wizard World New Orleans sixth annual convention was held 8-10 January 2016 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Attendance was amazing, with numbers high in cosplayers, gamers and comic aficionados. Chris Evans first ever Wizard World show attendance was incredible, autograph and photo sessions saw fan tears and smiles of joy permanently imprinted on faces.
The Russo Brothers lines were deservedly almost as long as Captain America’s. Eager fans were delighted to personally speak to the Directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, partially hopeful they could canoodle spoilers out of them. Yah, right! Those guys are so good at Easter eggs, how could anyone think they could cajole, wheedle, finagle or randomly trick those bros into spilling the beans.
Cosplayers attended all weekend, looking gorgeous, villainous, and heroic while representing every imaginable genre and comic universe. This convention showed incredible diversity in attendees, vendors, artists and costumes. Among multitudes of uniqueness this weekend, there was a blood drive, homemade soda with unlimited refills(Wild Bill’s), massive Doctor Who fan groups, well constructed sword and shield vendors for as low as $20 per item, free Batman and Superman capes from General Mills for their cereal touting the same names were among the many unique things to see this past weekend.
Screen Junkies did a live show with the Russo Brothers while watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier. FANTASTIC! Get a free minute and check their site out, it’s massively entertaining with quips, quotes and honest ripping apart of movies. They have absolutely brutal commentary but viewers are physically unable to move their eyes away, it’s captivatingly rough but all in the name of accuracy and believability.
The Russo’s commented on their Screen Junkies fandom and their ultimate goal was to keep their movie Screen Junkie proof. Lofty goal but it appears to have worked, they were respected by the SJ group and no arteries were sliced during the live show.
New Orleans is a wonderful town prepping for Mardi Gras and ready to have fun and relax in a big easy way! Give this event a 4.3 thumbs up for great location, pleasant January weather (makes wearing costumes much easier), travel and lodging costs and overall cosplay friendly environment. Plan for attending the 2017 convention, dates to be announced.
Cosplay was amazing, enjoy gallery #1!
