Wizard World St Louis (http://www.wizardworld.com/home-stlouis.html) opened fabulously with great cosplays, incredible celebrities and comic guests galore! The charitable organization Gateway Superfriends inhabited the main entrance way and greeted everyone coming into the con enthusiastically – constantly taking pictures with the crowd and other cosplay attendees. Busy folks – and super nice! More info at: Gatewaysuperfriends@gmail.com
The Stars Wars Midwest Garrison and The 501st were out and about sharing the next event for them at Busch Stadium on June 2nd, for Cardinals SuperHero Night! If you get a chance, attend and check out the costumes and Cardinals! Gonna be fun at the ball field that night! (You even get a free “SueprFred” bobble head with your special theme ticket) (More at: cardinals.com/theme)
Comic guests Jim Mahfood (@jimmahfood) was my favorite, creator of Tank Girl! Lion Forge Comics (David Gordon and Lorenzo Lizana among many) was a great booth, sketching and entertaining the crowd who gathered around their art. (More at www.lionforge.com )
Lots of steampunk vendors at this comicon, thank you Wizard World!!! Incredible hats at House of Genevieve! Reasonably priced little millinery works of art can be viewed at www.facebook.com/HouseofGenevieveMillineryEmporium.
Getting to the cosplays, AMAZING friday cosplays! Such a wide variety too – Ren Faire style with live owls and snakes, Arkham genre, steampunk, homemade characters (Ninja Iron Man, Captain Merica, etc…) so many unique costumes – loved it!!! At every con in every part of the country there is one or two interesting things about that area that come through in the costuming and cosplays. Friday it appeared that group cosplays was very popular here.
Favorite cosplays of the night were the Deadpool family, Captain Merica, Peter Pan and the Boondock Saints fight group! Runner up was the homemade Batman t-shirt guy. Funny – almost as great as the Afterhours Batman from Topeka, Kansas. Gotta check out his youtube shows – hilarious!
If you get a chance, come on down and get in the cosplay fun here in St. Louis! Worth it!!! Saturday will be epic – watch for the best of Wizard World Cosplays – Saturday!!!
