Stan Lee New Years Birthday Roast

Stan Lee

On Friday December 30th, from 8pm-10pm, celebrity guests and lucky Stan Lee Experience ticket-holders will gather for a special New Years Birthday Roast of Stan “The Man” Lee.  Hosted by Brian O’Halloran (of Kevin Smith’s Clerks fame), the special event is part of the Geek Expo’s “Marvelous New Years Eve” convention event taking place at the Sheraton Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

This roasting, coinciding with Lee’s birthday, comes shortly after Disney Chairman Robert Iger honored him for his 75 years at Marvel with a bronze statue of Mickey Mouse and Spider-man.

Who knows, maybe he will bring his sculpture to the roast with him.  He may need some superhero backup in his corner.

From the Geek Expo description:

“The celebrity guests from Marvelous Nerd Year’s Eve assemble to give a roast to the Birthday Boy himself, the great Stan “The Man” Lee. The evening’s festivities, hosted by Brian O’Halloran, will be talked about for years. Do not miss it.”

About the event the Geek Expos Entertainment Director, Devin Pike, said; “Putting together all of these parties and entertainment options for our attendees has been really challenging, because we wanted to make sure there was — to use the horrible catchphrase — something for everyone,”

Including – apparently – a roasting of the 93 year old godfather of comic books.

PRESS RELEASE:

DALLAS, TX–(Marketwired – November 17, 2016) – Geeks everywhere are getting ready to ring in the new year the Marvelous way at Geek Expo’s Marvelous Nerd Year’s Eve December 29 – January 1 at the Sheraton Dallas, but the con floor isn’t the only place the party’s getting started. The four-day event will be packed with music, dancing, toasts, and roasts to satisfy even the most dedicated party animal.

“Putting together all of these parties and entertainment options for our attendees has been really challenging, because we wanted to make sure there was — to use the horrible catchphrase — something for everyone,” says Devin Pike, Geek Expos entertainment director. “We think we’ve accomplished that. If you want to dance, shout, groove, rock out, swing, or just watch the festivities, you can do any or all of those things.”

Thursday, December 29 kicks off the festivities with two fun-filled events free to guests with any Thursday badge or ticket. The first is a live band karaoke featuring Time Machine, where singers can entertain the crowd like a pro with one of over 300 genre-spanning standards, lighting, props, costumes, and live backing from one of Dallas’ premier event bands from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Joining the Thursday night round-up is Sabrina Pandora’s “Bunny Hutch,” a convention kick-off tradition started back in the days when Pandora was a Dragon*Con regular. Now based in Dallas, Pandora and friends invite you to don your fishnets and wiggle your cottontail over to the hutch from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Friday, December 30 will celebrate the guest of honor himself, Stan “The Man” Lee with a birthday roast hosted by Brian O’Halloran (Clerks, Clerks II, Dogma). Celebrity guests from the Marvelous Nerd Year’s Eve lineup will assemble to send up the comic legend at this once-in-a-lifetime event from 8 to 10 p.m. The roast is free to Golden Ticket, VIP and Stan Lee Experience ticketholders, $10 for any other badge level, and $25 for non-MNYE badgeholders.

Also on the docket is a cosplay contest and the dance party ONE NIGHT IN GOTHAM from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. featuring DJ Bentendo and guests, which is free to any Friday badge or ticketholder.

Saturday, December 31 is the bash to end all bashes, with three different party areas dedicated to sending 2016 off with a bang. The main event stage will get down with BRIEFCASE BLUES, the first-ever tribute band celebrating Saturday Night Live’s cherished Blues Brothers characters.

An EDM and DJ stage will bring a modern twist with renowned mash-up artist Mike Relm. Relm is known for his unique style that mixes the old and the new while paying homage to classic entertainment. These stages will be open for general admission or VIP party pass holders.

An exclusive stage will be available for VIP party pass holders on Saturday night, rocking out with Dallas/Fort Worth’s own BAD KARMA, a four-piece classic and alternative cover band that can wail on everything from Pink Floyd to Tool.

“The last twelve months have hit the geek community hard, losing Bowie, Prince, Alan Rickman, Anton Yelchin, and so many more,” says Pike. “These parties are one more way to kick 2016 right out the door.”

Party passes are available for purchase for general admission ticketholders, ranging from $40 for the general admission party to $75 for access to the VIP party. Both add-on packages include a champagne toast at midnight.

Value-packed four-day VIP passes are also available for $295, which include one celebrity photo op and autograph, access and drink tickets to the Sector 37 Lounge and access to the VIP New Year’s Eve party.
